Undergraduate Research Opportunities

ASSIST offer two main undergraduate research opportunities:

  1. The Summer REU program offers research opportunities for domestic undergraduates from institutions outside of the ASSIST center. The program is open to any student who is majoring in a science or engineering-related field.
  2. The academic term undergraduate Research Fellows Program (Academic Term) offers research opportunities for ASSIST undergraduate students. The program is open to any student who is majoring in an engineering-related field at one of ASSIST’s partnering institutions.

Summer REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates)

The summer REU program offers research opportunities for domestic undergraduates from institutions outside of the ASSIST center. The program is open to any student who is majoring in a science or engineering-related field.

REU students will be immersed in a 10-week intensive research experience at one of ASSIST’s partner institutions where they will experience the various aspects of university research. Students will be partnered with a faculty mentor based on their interests, they will conduct a research project, and they will present their work at a student symposium at the end of the summer.

Students will receive a $4,000 stipend, on-campus room and board, and up to $500 for travel reimbursement for those students coming from outside of a 50 mile radius of the host university.
