FIU-ASSIST Team Picks up 3rd place at Student Design Competition, IMS-2019, Boston

Team led by ASSIST student Dieff Vital from Florida International University (FIU), wins 3rd place at the 2019 International Microwave Symposium (IMS) held at Boston on June 2 to 7. The design competition’s topic was Wearable/Frugal Microwave Energy Harvesting Design, where students were asked to build a cheap and reliable power harvesting antenna and circuit on cardboard using copper-tape. The developed harvester competed for harvesting most radio frequency power per unit area.

It was an exciting experience to be at an international venue and participate with others who were working on RF power collection.

Competing with the team was also graduate student, Alfredo Gonzales (also FIU), and the team was supervised by Prof. Shubhendu Bhardwaj. The winning team will now be asked to submit a paper to IEEE Microwave Magazine sharing their design techniques and experience with the greater microwave community. Congratulations!
